WHAT IS STUTTERING THERAPY?

Over 3 million people in the United States and 70 million people worldwide stutter. You are not alone! At Cadence Speech Therapy we are breaking down misconceptions about stuttering and helping our clients break free from self-stigma so they can confidently re-engage with their lives. We begin every journey with our clients by ensuring they have a solid understanding of what stuttering is, and empowering them with knowledge, self-advocacy skills, and a fresh perspective on fluency.

Our holistic and evidence-based approach to stuttering therapy includes teaching clients how to implement fluency shaping and modification strategies to reduce struggle and tension and increase ease in speaking. Every session is carefully planned to address each client's unique needs and goals, helping our clients achieve functional fluency and confidence when communicating.

Stuttering therapy is available for all ages.

STUTTERING EVALUATIONS

Stuttering evaluations include both taped and live speech during various activities, a review of a client's case history, a self-assessment of feelings associated with stuttering, and a norm-referenced assessment such as the SSI-4 or OASES when necessary.

If a client has had a previous evaluation, a formal evaluation may not be required to begin stuttering therapy.

INDIVIDUAL STUTTERING THERAPY

Taking an evidence-based and comprehensive approach to stuttering, we address:

  • Physical factors and functioning

  • Current activities and participation

  • Environmental factors

  • Psychological well-being

  • Personal goals

Our approach combines environmental factors with client-specific tools, such as fluency shaping strategies, to achieve more fluent speech.

At Cadence Speech Therapy we also evaluate and treat articulation and phonological disorders (in the presence or absence of stuttering). We implement evidence-based speech therapy approaches to help clients achieve clear speech.
